Week of January 25, 2016

1/27/2016

This week will consist of testing on -AR verbs and introducing -ER, -IR verbs. Notes on -ER, -IR verbs will be provided in class.

The -AR test will cover the following information:

Students should know and be able to say/write in Spanish from memory the following phrases when asked to translate from ENGLISH to SPANISH-

•Contestar = to answer
•Llegar = to arrive
•Necesitar = to need
•Enseñar = to teach
•Sacar buenas/malas notas = to get good/bad grades
•Tomar apuntes = to take notes
•Usar la computadora = to use the computer
•Comprar = to buy
•Escuchar música = to listen to music
•Estudiar = to study
•Hablar por teléfono = to talk on the phone
•Practicar deportes = to practice sports
•Mirar la televisión = to watch television
•Trabajar = to work
•Pasear = to go for a walk

The first section of the test will ask students to translate vocabulary words/phrases to Spanish. Some of these phrases may appear in sentences with well known vocabulary words that appear regularly in the student's assignment. For example, the students might be asked to translate a sentence such as "Mr. Waites teaches Spanish." It would be assumed that the student knows the Spanish word for "Spanish". "I buy food." would assume that the student knows the word for "food".
ADDITIONAL WORDS THAT I WOULD KNOW (even though you should know them already):
las preguntas - the questions, in - en, amigos - friends, español - Spanish, comida - food

Students should also know/understand the process of conjugating -AR verbs. The -AR verb conjugation chart follows-
Picture
The students must know how to conjugate the verbs listed in vocab list above. They will be asked to conjugate a verb in full and write the meanings of each form. Example:

Conjugate the verb "dibujar" and write the meaning of each form.
Yo dibujo - I draw
Tú dibujas - You draw (familiar)
Él dibuja - He draws
Ella dibuja - She draws
Usted dibuja - You draw (formal)
Nosotros dibujamos - We draw (masculine)
Nosotras dibujamos - We draw (feminine)
Ellos dibujan - They draw (masculine)
Ellas dibujan - They draw (feminine)
Ustedes dibujan - You all draw

The example above would receive full credit. At this point, each student should be able to complete this process.

Study hard and early!
